The first Majorca '68 Spring Group coincides with the International 5 Day Professional Tour of Mallorca, the 'Vuelta a Mallorca'. This world famous race is one of the very few in which just about every top professional team competes. Approx 200 riders, plus 70 or more training. Imagine seeing such riders as Oscar Freire and Stuart O'Grady sprinting together alongside Palma Harbour for 10 laps, while you are enjoying a coffee or cool beer at a pavement café - IT'S MAGIC!!! Mix with the best pro/amateur athletes in the world in our 3 star Hotel Ayron Park and see how they race and train. Our rides for this week criss-cross the course of the Vuelta a Mallorca, to see the race, and in later weeks there is a further list of runs for riders of all abilities, for no extra charge. Majorca '68 is hosted at luxurious Ayron Park Hotel in Arenal, 6 kms from Palma by the beautiful Playa de Palma; 3 stars, 60m from the seafront. There is now a dedicated cycle path all the way to Palma, you can ride to Palma from Arenal completely offroad. Latest - Cadel Evans To Open Season In Mallorca Challenge? Vuelta a Mallorca
The 'Vuelta a Mallorca' is a unique race in the Pro calendar in that riders can do the whole tour, or just one or more stages. The 82km 1st stage, 10 frantic laps of a course in Palma city, invariably ends in a hectic bunch sprint along the seafront. You can get closer to the aces than at any other race, they 'sign on' before your eyes on the seafront. Majorca '68 riders watched as Oscar Friere thrust his World Champion's vest over the line in 2000 and 2005 to take the stage. Local interest was high when Illes Balears squad took two stages and the overall, as Team Captain Tony Colom comes from Bunyola just up the road. Tony, who won the race overall in 2004, chatted to friends in the roadside crowd before the Palma stage.

Hello Doug and Liz!
Just wanted to send you a belated thank you for the wonderful time in Mallorca. I was expecting just a cycling trip and instead discovered a lovely, wacky and delightful community. I look forward to seeing you all again!
And thank you for your help in getting me track time. It seemed to have paid off! I took bronze in the pursuit, scratch and team sprint….missed bronze in the kilo by .10 seconds (grrrrrr)…..and lost the bronze medal ride in the sprints in three rides. Oh….and the points race? It was basically me vs. three Argentines and they taught a clinic. They rode a race as beautiful as it was vicious.
Attached is one of the podium pics. Thank you again for the wonderful time!!
Best,
GKT

Ride to the Three Monasteries

Majorca '68 rides can be gentle, sociable pottering, or serious training, it's your choice.
The ride to Puig de Randa starts gently from Arenal to the town of Llucmayor, then soon starts to climb. At Randa village the road rears up for the climb proper, with tree-lined hairpin bends. After a col where another road joins, the gradient eases a little for the final push to Santuari de Cura (550m). From here all the plain is visible including the two other monasteries of the 143k Three Monasteries Medal Ride, Monte Sion and San Salvador

Helen rings home "I've
climbed to the Cura!"

If you can't bear to leave, don't despair, there is always our autumn wind-down, October / November, just the ticket for you after a hard racing season, and to treat your wife / husband / girlfriend / boyfriend for putting up with all your fads during the season. The weather has always been good, in the 60's, just the right tonic before winter sets in. If you've never been before - you've never lived. Register with Doug now for more details. Wind-down

"Hi Doug, Just want to say a very big Thank You for all your help and generous support to the Paralympic Squad during our recent training camp in Majorca. It is very much appreciated by all and hopefully the camp will stand them in good grounds for their preparations for the Paralympic Games in Beijing in September.
Look forward to seeing next time we are out in Majorca".
Kind Regards, Denis Toomey

The Irish Paralympic Cycling Squad later sent a postcard from Beijing, celebrating their achievement of 7 National Records at the Games
